We’re pretty sure this jacket exemplifies the term “frequent flyer.” Built with unwavering attention to descent-oriented details, our Untracked Jacket keeps you aloft no matter how much bumpy weather you encounter. With a comfortable, low-bulk design, it features a versatile, 3-layer 100% nylon GORE-TEX® fabric for unsurpassed windproof and waterproof/breathable performance. The fabric package includes a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to prevent saturation; a moisture-managing brushed interior lining in the upper body that increases warmth and comfort without extra bulk; and a slick, snow-shedding nylon lining in the lower body to provide a smooth glide when layering. Pit zips allow a cooling airflow for steamy days, but when it blows, a fully adjustable, low-profile powder skirt with a single snap seals out spindrift and flyaway (includes a webbing loop that attaches to any Patagonia® Snow pants). The helmet-compatible, 2-way-adjustable hood has a soft, laminated visor to preserve visibility in wind-pushed snow along with the Cohesive® cord-lock system that embeds cord locks in the hood and hem to eliminate loose ends and provide easy adjustability. Coated, watertight slim zips throughout reduce bulk and weight, and a tweaked fit this season gives the Untracked a more tailored silhouette. Pockets: two handwarmers; one chest with a secure media pocket and cable routing; one pass pocket on the left forearm; one internal drop-in for goggles and gloves; and one internal stash (for your après-ski brew). Includes an embedded RECCO® avalanche rescue reflector.
  • Tough yet supple 3-layer nylon waterproof/breathable GORE-TEX® fabric with a brushed tricot backer for extra warmth
  • Helmet-compatible, 2-way-adjustable fixed hood with laminated visor for optimal visibility in bad conditions; Cohaesive® embedded cord-lock system in hood and hem provides quick and easy adjustment
  • Watertight, coated zippers with slim zip installation reduce bulk and weight; Vislon® center-front and chest pocket zips are durable and easy to use
  • Pit zips quickly release heat; adjustable low-profile cuffs secure over or under gloves
  • Adjustable powder skirt can be cinched for a tight seal or lies flat when not in use. A webbing loop at center back connects to any Patagonia® Snow pants
  • Zippered pockets: two handwarmers, one chest with secure media pocket with cable routing; one internal stash (plus one internal drop-in); one pass pocket on left forearm
  • Concealed RECCO® reflector

The construction of 3-Layer GORE-TEX® Products is unique. A 3-layer GORE-TEX® membrane is sandwiched between a soft outer material and a knit polyester backing material that increases durability. These garments keep you comfortable and protected from the elements without adding extra bulk or weight.

The GORE-TEX® membrane has 9 billion pores per square inch, with each pore 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. These tiny holes are too small for water and wind to pass through from the outside. But these same pores are large enough for moisture vapor to pass through, so your body's perspiration is able to escape and you won’t feel clammy or uncomfortable inside your jacket.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this piece of gear Tested skiing all over the NE, in Alaska all the way up in Utqiagvik standing on the Chukchi Sea in -44 degree F weather, snowshoeing in CT and NH and just around town in CT. Fantastic jacket that is an excellent external layer. Worth the money!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for skiing and around town I have last years version. I've used it in Tahoe and Whistler. I can't think of a feature it doesn't have. I really like that it's quiet. The Goretex Pro is a better material than the regular Goretex in this jacket but Goretex Pro are also loud and crinkly. The Untracked feels nice and doesn't make a racket. I'm 6' tall and went with a Medium which is perfect. I almost got a small but the Medium leaves more room to comfortably layer. And oh boy did I have to layer in Whistler. In Tahoe I wear only a base layer underneath. In Whistler I needed an additional R1 plus Nano Air vest and I was still cold. That's not the jackets fault. This is a shell that keeps the wind and wet out. It does that perfectly. On spring days in Tahoe I don't wear the Untracked. Any Goretex jacket is way too hot. The only thing that would make this jacket perfect and why I gave it 4 stars is that I would prefer a Neoshell material for better breathability compared to Goretex. Otherwise it's awesome. I even get away wearing it as a rain coat around town.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Falls & Pub Crawls Well, my season is over. I should have wrote this awhile ago because I certainly was not wearing this jacket on the 4th up at Squaw. (It's [way] too warm) But I have had a lot of time to reflect: The Untracked jacket is a masterpiece. Not without imperfections, the liner gets caught in the zipper at the bottom sometimes if you don't finesse it a little and the chest pocket angle is a little weird.. But the fabric is supple and quiet, the backer on the inside warm and cozy (Don't forget to layer, Ace, it's not that warm.) The backer really shores it up though. Those days when you layered well but start to get a little cold after the lift ride live in the past with the Untracked. I won't spend much time on the Features because they all just work, the hood fits over my helmet + you can still look around. The Drop in pocket comfortably holds goggles.. ...Or a 40 (I know some of you were wondering) It also feels at home downtown on those bitter cold winter crawl nights. It's roomy to layer for skiing but still looks good with just a shirt under it. You can zip up for the walk, then open the vents and unzip when you get into the warmth to stay comfortable. All without taking it off, setting it down, and undoubtedly leaving it. No, don't leave it.. You'll never forgive yourself. So to sum it up: Supple buttery fabric, features that work, versatility.. What more could you ask for?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Everything you want in a Snow Jacket I picked up last years version and it's amazing. The best jacket I've ever had. Has all the perks and features you'd expect being a high-end 3L jacket. I like a stylish fit and the Medium fits my 5'11" frame perfect. The hood covers my helmet and doesn't sacrifice movement or vision. The seems are all top notch. I will put on a single merino base layer on and a vest if it's below freezing and never have an issue with cold. The only things I have with it are the color options. I like the options more this year, but I think a single colorway would be an improvement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket Tested this already at Whistler and it did not disappoint. Comfortable and waterproof. The cut is just right to keep out the elements but not look like a park rat. Love the inner pocket for phone or media player. Skiing mostly inside resort the left hand pocket is perfect for RF lift pass. The under arm zippers are thin - good but hard to open/close. I hope with use they will get better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing jacket for snowboarding in all conditions This jacket is my favorite piece of snow gear. It breathes really well (I run really hot when riding and the pit zips are more than enough to vent), is super durable (I've hit several branches over the last 3 seasons of learning trees), keeps me super warm (the inside adds a little bit of warmth and all I need is an R1 underneath) and lastly it is extremely comfortable. This fabric is also pretty soft to the touch, so not only is it "quiet" (unlike some scratchy/crinkly waterproof fabrics out there), but it is also very comfortable to the touch. I love this jacket, the only thing I wish it had was a removable powder skirt. I ended up cutting out the skirt since it made the jacket tight around the waist even when undone. I hope the design team will please consider a removable skirt next season!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally spent the extra $ to keep me dry After procrastinating and finally mustering of the $ I decided to purchase the Untracked. Wow!!!! What a difference! Don't be foolish and try to save $ by going with H2No jackets you end up soaked on dry days since they don't breathe at all. The Untracked 3 layer Gortex breathes and keeps you dry, letting out the moisture that builds up under your layers during the most active days. I can't wait to try it on a sloppy day on the slopes. The fit is loose so if you need to you can layer on the cold days. Originally was going to go with the Triolet jacket but layering would have made it a tighter fit. Also love the amount of storage this jacket provides. The interior lining is also very nice. Hope to get years of use out of this shell. Love It! Great job Patagonia! Love the grey and orange accent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Ski Coat I was comparing the Untracked to the PowderBowl jacket, and even though this is more expensive, I think its worth it. The fit is trimmer, the hood and collar are snugger, and the material is nicer to the touch. All around, its a jacket you can wear on the slopes or even day to day and not feel like you are ballooning around inside a big ski coat. The lining is interesting too. They went with a solid grey lining rather than the usual mesh. Makes the garment feel stronger and more well put together. Will be interesting to see how it holds up over the next few years.
