If only your partner were as versatile as our R3® Hoody, you wouldn’t be leading that wide pitch right now. Wear the R3® as an outer layer when you’re moving forward, reverse it out for high-pile warmth under an outerlayer when the pace slows down. Compressible and resilient, this reversible Regulator® fleece hoody is made of an exclusive Polartec® High Loft™ polyester fleece that wicks moisture, dries quickly and caches heat when temperatures plunge. Worn pile side out, it has two handwarmer pockets and an internal zippered chest pocket; worn smooth side out, the chest pocket becomes external. The R1® cuffs have spiral-seam construction and are easy to push up; elastic binding at the close-fitting hood, the hem and the handwarmer pockets further seals in warmth. Sonic/Stitch seam construction reduces bulk on the center-front zipper; a soft, kissing-welt center-front zipper garage is easy on the chin; offset shoulder seams stay clear of pack straps.
  • Exclusive to Patagonia, this Polartec® High Loft™ fleece provides exceptional warmth, dries quickly and has breathability appropriate for use as an outer layer or midlayer
  • Snug-fitting hood with elastic binding locks in heat; underarm gussets and raglan sleeves for increased mobility and comfort under a pack
  • Reversible style has removable tags and reversible center-front zipper with soft kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • Pile side out: hoody-style handwarmer pockets with elastic binding; smooth side out: glued-on, zippered chest pocket
  • Center-front zipper has Sonic/Stitch seam construction to reduce bulk and improve suppleness
  • Clean-finished cuffs use R1® Polartec Power Grid™ fabric in a spiral-seam construction
  • Elastic binding at hem, hood and handwarmer pockets seals in warmth
  • Body: 8.9-oz Polartec® High Loft™ 97% polyester (53% recycled)/3% spandex. Cuffs: 6.9-oz Polartec® Power Grid™ 93% recycled polyester/7% spandex. Pockets: 3.4-oz 100% nylon woven. Fabric is bluesign® approved

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's R3® Hoody is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cozy and functional I got this a month ago and have worn it hiking and skiing as well as casually. It's incredibly soft and layers perfectly under a nano puff. The fit is flattering and I like the option of using the hood as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands Down the BEST! I bought this a month ago and have used it as a mid layer while skiing on below zero days in Colorado. The hood worked perfectly as a balaclava under my helmet. It kept me toasty and warm all day. I also wear it around the house and running errands. I am 5'7", 125 lbs. and ordered size small, fits perfectly over my base layer shirts and under my ski jacket. I also just ordered one for my sister! All in all, it is warm, comfortable and cozy!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor fit but super cozy I've owned an R3 before, and I was really happy with the warmth and the fit. But unfortunately I lost that one and was looking to replace it. Although the new model is as warm and comfy as ever, the style and fit is different. I hope patagonia will bring back the slim fit for future models. I am 5'1" and about 100 lbs and this jacket was too big for me an in XS. My XS R2 fits perfectly and I wish I could have the same fit in a warmer jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thin but warm I love this hoody - it's thin and layer-able but super warm. I bought it for skiing but ended up using it every day as either an outer layer on cool days or under my jacket on cold days. Plus I wear it as a mid layer every time I ski because it's not bulky at all. I love how soft it is! I do have to say I don't quite understand the point of it being reversible, but I"m sure some people will appreciate that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Feels great! I gave it three stars because the pockets make no sense they should all be on the same side of the jacket. Zippers on the pockets would be preferable. And thumb holes on cuffs would be a great feature!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cold, windy, rainy or snowy weather, meet your mat I work at a ski area, and this is my favorite base layer. If weather turns cold, wet or windy, I put the hood on under my helmet and zip up. Ahhh! When it's time to wash my R-1, it just goes in with the rest of the wash and into the dryer. Bullet prof, warm and flexible
