bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's R3® Hoody is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite fleece I am a collector of jackets and fleece... especially Patagonia. This is my favorite. Okay, so I don't like the chest pocket on the grid side but everything else is perfection (& if you buy the black then it isn't as obvious). The sleeves are a bit long (I'm 5'8"), the pockets are deep, it is long to keep the back warm, and it's fitted without feeling like a scuba suit. And, most importantly, it is super warm while still being thin. I have the older R3 jackets which were quite fluffy and this is much warmer and easier to layer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really soft I really like this jacket. I did not give this 5 stars because the fleece is lightly shedding on my clothes when I wear it. I have not had this problem before with fleece, or any other Patagonia products, so I am not sure why this jacket is shedding fine fleece particles on my clothes. I recommend this product so long as it is not shedding. I find that I am a little reluctant to wear this jacket knowing that it is going to shed on my clothes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for layering I bought this on Patagonia's Worn Wear* site a few months ago. It's a great layering piece because it is light, but warm. I haven't had any shedding issues, and love the soft fleece. I agree with other reviewers that this jacket should have just as many pockets as the Men's version. Or at least a pocket that could fit a smartphone. Lastly, the hood is not really my style, since when you zip it up in covers your mouth. I'd rather use a gaiter, and have a normal hood. For reference, I wear a small (115 lb, 5'2''), and it's loose enough for me to fit layers underneath. *Patagonia, PLEASE stop putting your worn wear stamp on reversible jackets. The stamp is not cool enough to make me want to show it off to the whole world!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent; why only three pockets? I have owned my R3 for about six months now. I like the fit, the fact that it is still soft and fuzzy, the reinforced wrist material, and the midweight fleece is perfect for coastal fog where I live. The only problem is that curiously, the women's version of this only has three pockets- one on one side, and two on the other (the jacket is reversible). However, the men's version has FIVE pockets. But - they are the same price. I'm sure there is some kind of design reason for this that some product manager could feed me, but the message is clear. Less functional, same price. If it weren't for this little sexist hang-up, I would certainly be giving the product 5 stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE, LOVE, LOVE So I am definitely a fleece jacket kinda girl and have lots of Patagonia fleeces, but this one is by far my favorite, followed closely by the R2. The previous R3's were much bulkier and made it difficult to fit under a jacket but this design is wonderful. When the jacket is reversed you do not have access to the hands pockets which might be the jackets only super small downfall.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So disappointed Please bring back the old R3! The previous one used to be my best fleece ever, super warm, perfect for every mountain conditions and sports (skiing, climbing, hiking, alpinism), flexible and the fit was super flatering too. I have two of them (now old). This new one is terrible, loosing fur everywhere (like a cat), too baggy and the little squares don't seem to be as warm as the fur. I know that, around me, I am not the only one to complain (I live in a mountain town). I think I will find another brand or switch to R2 (which is not as warm).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm and soft - zipper cold on face I bought this for an arctic expedition to northern Canada and NW Greenland. When it arrived I was nervous it wouldn't be warm bc it's so thin. During the day I just wore this and a wicking layer and a wind shell and was perfectly warm. It was the best pre-trip purchase I made! The biggest problem is the zipper comes up over my chin and mouth and does not have fabric to keep it from touching skin. In cold temps it kept freezing to my skin which hurt. The pocket is big enough for a cell phone but I had to wrestle with it to get it in/out of the pocket. I love having zipper pockets to keep things that need to be near body heat and that are easy to get to.
