From the frosty days of fall through the shimmering snows of winter, our R3® Hoody warms like a wood-burning stove. Compressible and resilient, this reversible Regulator® fleece hoody is made of an exclusive Polartec® High Loft™ polyester fleece that wicks moisture, dries quickly and caches heat when temperatures plunge. Worn pile side out, it has two handwarmer pockets and an internal zippered chest pocket; worn smooth side out, the chest pocket becomes external. The R1® cuffs have spiral-seam construction and are easy to push up; elastic binding at the close-fitting hood, the hem and the handwarmer pockets further seals in warmth. Sonic/Stitch seam construction reduces bulk on the center-front zipper; a soft, kissing-welt center-front zipper garage is easy on the chin; offset shoulder seams stay clear of pack straps.
  • Exclusive to Patagonia, this Polartec® High Loft™ fleece provides exceptional warmth, dries quickly and has breathability appropriate for use as an outer layer or midlayer
  • Snug-fitting hood with elastic binding locks in heat; underarm gussets and raglan sleeves for increased mobility and comfort under a pack
  • Reversible style has removable tags and reversible center-front zipper with soft kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • Pile side out: hoody-style handwarmer pockets with elastic binding; smooth side out: glued-on, zippered chest pocket
  • Center-front zipper has Sonic/Stitch seam construction to reduce bulk and improve suppleness
  • Clean-finished cuffs use R1® Polartec Power Grid™ fabric in a spiral-seam construction
  • Elastic binding at hem, hood and handwarmer pockets seals in warmth
  • Body: 7.6-oz Polartec® High Loft™ 97% polyester (53% recycled)/3% spandex. Cuffs: 6.7-oz Polartec Power Grid™ 93% recycled polyester/7% spandex. Pockets: 3.4-oz 100% nylon. Body and cuff fabrics are bluesign® approved

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I bought the R3 about a month ago, and I immediately knew I was going to love it. I took it with me on a 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip around Mt. Hood and it was perfect. Light enough so it's not super bulky for backpacking but definitely warm enough and an excellent layer. I love the fact that it zips up over your face for extra warmth. I don't find the zipper to be too bulky. It's also a great coat to throw on over t-shirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!! This jacket is just awesome!! I'm not sure why the reviews are so negative. I love the color (rustic purple), it is very warm and soft, great fit/silhouette. The only problem I have is deciding which side to wear since both sides have such a unique look and feel. I have owned many Patagonia Regulator fleeces over the years and this is by far the best fit and the most comfortable. I like this one the best. I love the high neck of this jacket. It's like a fleece scarf built in. It fits great with a t-shirt or a sweatshirt/sweater, very versatile. The fleece is very light yet exceptionally warm. I'm probably going to end up living in the this all fall and winter. If I pair this with a shell it will be unbelievable warm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Good I have owned the Women's R3 Hoodie for over 5 years. I have ordered it 3 times. It has been my go jacket for so many reasons. Worn daily and even to bed when it has been super cold out. The new model is horrible. The fit is too boxy. What happened to the flattering, slim fit? Even the regular fit that it was changed to was workable for me. But when the ugly texture was added, the contrast pocket, the strange cuffs and the ugly colors, it became unacceptable to me. This is not the R3 we have known. It is an entirely new model imho. Call it something else and bring back what we know as the R3.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from High Hopes for the R3 I love my R1 and R2 jackets and was really excited when I saw the R3 on sale in a gorgeous green/teal combo and having just relocated to Colorado, I felt that I could use another layer in the line up. The first time I tried it on, it was boxy and the sleeves were so long that I had to roll them up. I kept justifying to myself that I would just use it as a "hang out fleece" but now it just sits in my closet. I will stick to my old trusties from now on!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great fabric; not great design I love the new R3 fabric, but cannot figure out what to do with the bulky neck and hood. Because of this, the piece will not work under a rain shell or anything else. Please, please, make an R3 simple pullover and jacket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reversible R3 I wasn't aware this jacket reversed so if you want pockets, you will have to wear it the opposite direction of what is pictured above. Also, there seems to be little difference between the fleece and warmth either side you turn it around to wear it in. It's just a confused jacket that has it's two best attributes (chest and hand pockets) sorely separated from functionality. Just give me a good old R3 jacket please.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lifesaver on Mount Rogers My outdoor leadership team recently went on a backpacking trip to Mount Rogers, during which the temperature dropped down to -27, a horrifyingly low temperature for a Southerner like myself. I purchased the R3 in Oxblood Red as a midlayer, under my Piolet shell and over my thermal weight merino base layer. It has become my go-to fleece for everything. It's comfortable and versatile. It was an excellent midlayer on my trip and also kept me warm and comfy inside my sleeping bag. The balaclava style hood was excellent layered with a beanie to keep my head warm. I only have 2 cons: first of all, the zipper on the hood rubs against your face when zipped up fully and second, I would have preferred thumbholes. All in all, I definitely love this fleece and plan on buying a second one in black.
