Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Women's Stretch All-Wear Shorts is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from waist is too big I have a large waist. (I'm 5'4'' tall, 140 pounds, 35- or 36-inch waist.) I believe Patagonia changed their sizing a couple years ago to accommodate "modern" (larger) waist sizes. In general, I think that's great, but sometimes they go too far in making the waist of their pants larger. These shorts are an example of that. Size 10 fits me perfectly everywhere else, but the waist is so large that I have to wear a belt. The shorts are nice looking - even dressy - so I do like them. They are a thick material, so they're best for moderate (not super-hot) weather. They also wrinkle quite a bit when I sit down, so they need to be washed between wearings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent fabric and feel I am probably a size 5. I went with a size 4 due to expectation that fabric w/spandex stretches with wear. I am 5' almost 6" and 124 lbs. I deal with being middle aged ? (47y) and 2 c-sections, creating a difficult to fit body. My daughter thought size 4 was optimal, my husband thought size 6, but size 4 for me was most comfortable. Putting my hands in the pockets of a size 4, didn't push the shorts slightly down off my waist, as happened in the size 6. If the size was perfect I would likely have purchased several but I am wary as I think in a couple of years I may become a size 6.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So comfortable I LOVE these shorts. They fit my body almost perfect, with one small exception. The waist is a little loose but I can move the button or wear a belt. (I am 5' 5'' , 115 lbs. and bought a size 4.) Otherwise I love that they are not so baggy in the leg. Great sturdy but soft fabric and a pretty lining. May be ordering another color because the sale price is pretty good. Will get a lot of use of these new favorite shorts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Every day shorts Great soft material. Runs a little big. Normally I wear size 6 in shorts but had to exchange for size 4. Im 5'8 132lbs. Wish there was more color choices. As a comparison the same shorts but the shorter version I wear size 6.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fit not great but I still like them! I ordered these shorts for work- I work in a relatively casual office. I got the bamboo print and ordered 2 sizes up from my usual side (usually an 8, ordered a 12) at the recommendation of other reviewrs. Fabric feels and looks great, shorts are well-constructed. HOWEVER, while the legs fit well, and are even slightly snug at the bottom when I'm seated, the waist and bum areas are huge! I understand that the shorts are meant to be more fitted, but I have an athletic build (skier's thighs/quads), as I'm sure many Patagonia ladies do, and would prefer the legs to be roomier so I'd be able to order my usual size, and have all areas of the shorts fit as they should. Regardless, I just cinch in my belt and the shorts look baggy. I still like 'em though! If I could order again, I'd size up just one size instead of two. I could've exchanged them, but again, I don't mind the baggier look and wearing a belt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts for activities as well as work I bought the Navy, camo (my fave) and beige to start and ended up buying all colors. I seem to be between sizes-8-10 and decided on the 10 for a roomier fit. I am 5'6" and 145#. I love these short-really can go from office to outdoors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect shorts for casual day at the office. The fit of these shorts is spot on. The fabric is sturdy, comfortable, but stylish. Just what I needed for "casual day" at the office.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No go for my skier girl thighs I could only recommend these to a friend with a very different body type from my own! The fit is all wrong for me. The size 10 shorts are tight on the thighs and gape hugely at the hips and waist. I'm 5'7" 140# and I have several pairs of patagonia pants/shorts/crops in size 8, 10, M or 29 that fit nicely. Going up or down a size does not seem like it would help in this case. The size model for the new Spring 2015 sizing is apparently not an hourglass type with skier girl thighs. Too bad!
