Starting up the precipitous trail to Huayna Picchu you leave the crowds behind and enter the tropical, high-altitude world of mist, cloud and wind. This is where our Sidesend Jacket excels. Its soft-shell design blocks wind, sheds moisture and holds your heat when the day’s plans go into night. The Sidesend has a lightweight yet sturdy feel. Made with a stretchy fabric that combines a dash of spandex with recycled polyester, it manages a wide range of weather conditions while still maintaining a comfortable level of breathability for aerobic activities. A DWR (durable water repellent) finish blocks moisture. Inside, a soft, brushed tricot backer wicks perspiration to keep you dry when you’re pushing the pace uphill. Features include a stand-up collar; two zippered handwarmer pockets; a chest pocket; two internal drop-in pockets; and microfleece-lined neck, wind flap and cuffs for a skin-friendly feel. bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from See Martin C's Review I couldn't say it better than Martin. I have been trying to replace an Adze jacket and an R4. This is a good looking jacket that's neither warm nor comfortable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I wanted to like it My whole wardrobe and all my travel gear is pretty much only Patagonia. I am a BIG fan. Where do I start with this jacket. Pros. It looks good and is a good fit with nice long sleeves and no annoying velcro cuffs and looks good. It is also reasonably light. I thought it would be a good versatile office and mild outdoor wear (gentle hiking) and travel piece. Cons. It doesn't breath or wick. At all. A brisk walk to the train station leaves me in a lather of sweat even on a cold day. And not just any sweat, I feel like I am wearing a wet suit. It also isn't warm, even for a shell. So it is a sweatbox that doesn't keep you warm which means the sweat cools when your activity stops and this is not good. I felt bad writing a critical review yet this piece goes against the Patagonia ethos of multifunction garments. Sorry Patagonia but you really got it wrong with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit, Great coat Bought this over the summer, with an eye to this fall. Lately the mornings are getting crisp enough to need a jacket, and this has been great. Perfect for cool mornings, and chilly hikes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made! I purchased this on sale for my beloved boyfriend who has lost 55#. He is 5"11 and now weighs 180. A medium fits him perfectly. It is not too flashy and the blue is a nice hue. He would never buy this for himself and since we were having beers, it was extremely easy for me to push the "buy" button. I do not regret this decision and he has since put away his old ratty zip up hoodie from GoodWill. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile A great and comfortable all around jacket. Didn't think that it would be able to replace an earlier Patagonia lightweight jacket, but I was wrong.
