Note

Our Stand Up Shorts® have been around nearly as long as Patagonia itself, and the fit has essentially remained unchanged. They’re typically worn high on the waist and fit a bit more snug than our other shorts. If you want your Stand Up Shorts to fit like our other shorts, we recommend going one waist size larger than you normally order.

Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic shorts!!! Sizing is WAAAAY OFF!!! Stand Up shorts are seem to be a dying breed. They’re actual SHORTS. I’ve been wearing them since they were introduced way back in the 80s… hiking, climbing, carpentry and hanging out. AND I’ve been a Chouinard climbing gear user since the 70s. Something has happened to my beloved Stand Up Shorts over the past few years. Someone on the design team doesn’t know how to measure! I normally wear size 33. Suddenly! Not having gained any weight! I was having to get size 34. Even then, they were too small, WAAAY too small. I could barely button them and they were almost painfully tight. Sorry Patagonia, but my vanity will simply NOT allow me to buy size 36! Fix it! PLEASE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My fav shorts! Love these! Incredible design, durable, easy to move in, & the wide leg allows for superb ventilation. I'm at 5 pairs now! I'd love to see this style incorporated into the Hemp Workwear line....! Liberate your Legs! 5" or bust!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from "Stand Up" shorts disappointment I've been buying "Stand Up" shorts for - it seems like - 30+ years. But I don't know if I'll be buying anymore Stand Up shorts. For one thing, they're no longer Stand Up shorts; they're Flop Down shorts. It seems you're using a lower weight fabric, so that, even when they're new, they don't stand up. Of course, I don't really care if they stand up or not, but the lighter weight fabric wears out sooner. I'm all for using organic cotton, but bring back the heavier weight fabric, please. Also, it appears you are also using a lighter weight fabric for the pocket material, as it seems like the pockets on all my newer pairs of Stand Up shorts have holes in them and are useless (without repair) for holding anything other than my hands. In short, please make your Stand Up shorts "burlyer" or I'm gonna have to resort to - shudder! - Carhartts. Thanks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great item once you get the right fit. Runs incredibly small at the waist. I am normally a size 30 and after reading reviews I ordered a size 32 and they were still too small. I ordered them in a size 34 again and they fit comfortably. The pockets are huge which I like and I can tell these shorts will last a long time. Other than the sizing issue, one other complaint is the width of the legs. I have pretty big thighs and while the length of these shorts are perfect, I definitely have to make sure I wear underwear with these otherwise they reveal a bit too much when sitting down..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Who are these shorts sized for? Patagonia's Stand Up shorts have been my go-to shorts for years. Unlike some reviewers, I like the wide legs (for freedom of movement) and the short inseam. So when it came time to replace my last pair of old Stand Ups, I gladly paid the premium price online. However, like a lot of other reviewers, I was sorely disappointed in the sizing. Taking a cue from other reviewers, I ordered up, opting for a size 34 for my 32 waist. Alas, when the shorts arrived I could barely get them to fasten. Seriously? If there was a "runs very small" button, I would use it. And the material seems to be flimsier than my old iron Stand Ups. Patagonia has a manufacturing problem, and I will forego buying their shorts until I can be assured the problem is solved.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor sizing As an original Patagonia customer, who has been wearing stand up shorts since they were first introduced, I cannot express my dissatisfaction in the changes to the sizing of your stand up shorts. At first, I thought the shorts I received were just part of a bad manufacturing lot. It now appears to be an intentional change made by Patagonia, based on all the same customer comments. If Patagonia is going to make a major change to a signature product like Stand Up Shorts, in an effort to be transparent to the customer, it would be appreciated to let us know. That way we can all avoid the aggravation of returning products that do not fit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality, but too small I bought these for my husband, who is usually between size 29 and 30. Reviews said they were small, so I sized up to and bought a 30. These were still way too small. People should definitely size up one or two sizes on these. We're sending them back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sizing is weird, too much fabric. The legs are too billowy and I risk exposure when lying on couch. I'd like them to be even shorter, but a little more snug. The waist is small, but the legs are huge. I have just been wearing around house for now, haven't gone adventuring very far.
