Earth Is Now Our Only Shareholder

If we have any hope of a thriving planet—much less a business—it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.

Earth is no
easy boss.

Three years ago, we made Earth our only shareholder. Since then, reporting to her hasn’t been easy. Our first Work in Progress Report details the truth about how we’re messing up, where we’re making progress and all the stubborn challenges ahead.

"For all the work we’ve done, and all the money we’ve given away, it is still not enough."

01

Business Unusual

We exist to save our home planet. That's not just a purpose statement—it's part of our legal charter and embedded into the way Patagonia is owned and governed.

02

Product

Building quality, functional and durable gear is the heart of our business. But we have different criteria for quality than most. We insist that our products must perform, endure, be multifunctional, minimize harm and last for generations.

Ian Durkin

“While every Patagonia product solves a problem in the field, making anything comes with a cost in terms of how and where it was built, and who built it.”

Work in Progress Report Chapter 2

182,646

metric tons of CO₂e we put out into the atmosphere in FY25.

174,799

products repaired across the globe in FY25.

“Patagonia uses the same factories as fast-fashion brands.”

~85%

of our products don’t have an end- of-life solution as of FY25.

We have been committed to organic virgin cotton since 1996. Today, we’re on a path to adopting an even higher standard.

Grants & Giving

Since 1985, we’ve donated 1% of all sales to grassroots nonprofits. Along with our nonprofit owner, Holdfast Collective, the organizations and initiatives we fund represent a powerful collective movement to protect, preserve and regenerate our lands and waters for generations to come.

David Banks

“The biggest environmental victories in history are driven by people-powered movements. Movements that start with strategies, advocates and actions that build off momentum and with investment.”

Work in Progress Report Chapter 3

$14.7M

FY25 grants and in-kind support donated to 824 nonprofits via our 1% for the Planet® program.

$240M

total environmental grants since our company’s founding.

“Top-notch virtue signaling.”

$2M

In June 2025, Holdfast Collective chipped in to help The Nature Conservancy purchase and protect 8,000 acres near Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp, the largest black-water swamp in the US.

Activism

Most of the grassroots nonprofits we fund have big ideas, low overhead and small teams at the helm. Sometimes, a check is what’s most helpful to them; often, what we offer beyond the check—like leveraging our company resources, voice and platforms—can make the bigger difference.

Mitja Herlegat

“Our goal isn’t just to support a grassroots organization once during a crisis. It’s to enable a movement that can help communities in the long run.”

Work in Progress Report Chapter 4

$2.4M

saved by grantees globally by using our skills-based volunteering program in FY25.

1M+

actions initiated through Patagonia Action Works, like donating, signing a petition or attending an event, to support our grantees globally in FY25.

“Stick to selling clothes.”

For years, we’ve stood with activists in their fight to save Europe’s last wild river, the Vjosa. There’s still some challenges ahead, but already, their efforts have paid off.
