Beautiful and stylish coat but needs two revisions
I honestly loved everything about this coat - the style, the soft hand of the fabric, the coziness, the fit. But two things (also noted by other reviewers) kept me from keeping it. 1) the hood fit was odd. I would have much preferred a removable hood (like the Down With It) as this hood was too puffy/bulky behind my head when not using it. 2) When... Read More the zipper is pulled all the way up, it pokes uncomfortably into my neck/under my chin. Even if I leave the collar not fully zipped, the corners of the collar still poke upward under the chin - they don't lay flat to the sides. Not cozy at all! I really wanted to keep it but knew I couldn't live with the annoying zipper. I ended up getting the Down With It which isn't nearly as nice looking (and I don't like the more fitted cut) but is a bit more functional/versatile/comfortable.
I've been looking for a long parka for some time and I absolutely fell in love with this coat as soon I put it on (I got the olive color). Life Changing Coat!
I had a 2011 Patagonia Coat that I traded in for this coat (yay for that!), and it was TIME for an upgrade! I bought this coat on a 5F day and walked out of the store in it and haven't looked back. Comfortable, warm, perfect fit
I was excited to purchase this jacket on sale, since I've been wanting one for a while. The color is prettier than it looks online (I've received 3 compliments so far) and the fit is perfect. I typically wear a small in Patagonia tops but sometimes the sleeves are a tad short. Not with this jacket. It fits me like a glove. The neck/cowl a... Read Morerea is the perfect height, too, a factor that I didn't pay attention to until I bought a jacket that came up too high and wasn't comfortable on my face. There's enough room to wear a heavy sweater underneath, which is critical when things get real cold. Pockets are just the right size, hood is just right, and I feel good about it because of Patagonia's sourcing standards. Would 100% recommend.
Seems like a warm coat but....
I am 5'3 and about 130. I always wear a Patagonia small in everything from t-shirts, sweatshirts, fleece jackets etc.I have the women's Nano Puff and Fiona Parka in a small, and they fit perfectly. I was so excited for this warmer style coat but it is too big even with wearing a fleece underneath. I should have ordered an XS.

Just what I was looking for
I live in Chicago, and a good everyday winter coat is a must. I like this parka as it is thick enough to keep me warm, but is not so heavy that it feels like excessive weight. Better for someone tall
The coat is warm and comfortable. It fit way below my knee - Im 5 tall. It would be great if Patagonia made a Petite size. I would have gone with the length but the zipper is difficult to use. Really difficult. I returned the coat.

Walking in a cloud of warmth at 15 degrees!!!
As other reviews have mentioned, this coat is an investment. I tried several other parkas that advertised similar down fill. This one is hands-down the warmest with far better wind/weatherproofing! The minimalist hood seems to be cut to fit under a helmet. This leaves your face completely exposed to the winter weather (wind, sleet, pelting snow).
Super warm, easy to move int, and really cute/slimming for a puffer! I was on the fence about this coat, due to the price. I have been wearing this coat daily as I walk my dog in the Northeast freezing weather. It has been nice and warm. It hits me right above my knees which is perfect. Good product except for zipper
The parka exceeded my expectations except for the zipper. The parka fit true to size, had sophisticated lines and lovely fabric. It is light weight, yet warm. However the zipper was flimsy. The reverse zipper function kept jamming. Since I did not want to deal with this frustrating fact on a daily basis, I returned the parka.

Cozy, close-fitting, could use more pocket space
Most importantly, this is comfortable and warm. I've been wearing it in temps slightly above freezing and with enough activity it almost gets too warm, so I can tell it would be good for lower temps. I'm 5'4" and 145lb, got a size M, and it fits more like I'd expect an M sweater to fit, which means there's not much room left for layers. There is room for a good base layer or a close-fitting sweater, but not really enough room for a looser or thicker sweater. If you want more room like many coats have, consider sizing up. It could really use more pocket space. A parka makes my pants pockets inaccessible, so it's more important than in other coats. The external pockets are just about big enough to fit a hand, it would be good if they were bigger to better hold a hat or gloves once I'm inside. Even my small phone bulges unpleasantly in them right now. And while the left internal pocket is convenient because you only have to unzip a little to get at it, it would be nice if there was another one on the right side as well. The central zipper goes high up, and due to how stiff it is it's uncomfortable against my chin or throat unless I unzip it pretty far. Which of course means being cold unless I add a scarf which is a waste of the zipper... Would be nice if the top of the zipper were softer or more padded so I could actually zip it all the way without discomfort.
Hi Daphna, thank you for sharing such a thorough and thoughtfully-written review! Warmth without bulk
This coat is warm enough for 20 degree weather, without the excess bulk that would normally be required. It is wind and water resistant, though still pretty stylish for the warmth provided. The pockets are strategically placed, and make this a functional coat for around town use in cold weather.

Great jacket. Does really well in the wind, comfortable fit. Has a slight flare at the bottom but I am assuming this is for ease of movement as it goes down to my knees. Would be nice if it was fully waterproof but water resistance seems to be working for now. Highly recommended.

I absolutely love how lofty this is, and how well it blocks out the wind and chill. I live in Colorado so its been dry so far, but I do feel confident this will shed any drizzle or wet snowy blizzard days. Even though its a tad more heavy & bulky than an ultralight down parka, the extra technical features are well worth it, and its still quite lightweight! I have used it on walks, and also taking kids to the park when Im standing still on cold days, hood up, all the way zipped up, and utilizing the hand warmer pockets and I felt perfectly warm and protected. This also looks really sleek and sharp. Basically I love everything about it! The only problem is I look REALLY stupid when I put the hood on, it's the price to pay to stay warm in winter I suppose.
Uncomfortable lapels and hood
This coat is very nice, clearly good quality, I wanted it to work, but the design of the lapels and the hood are just terrible. Nice Coat...But there are some cons
Warning: In-Depth Review I debated about getting this jacket because I had gone through the reviews and noticed that the main issues with this coat were the zipper and it not being that warm. I had a snowball (really wet snow) fight in it and I was dry afterwards. The zipper is a bit annoying. It almost has a personality of its own (Sometimes it works other times it can be quite challenging). The hood is also a bit small. There are no drawstrings to keep it up. The neck area is a bit awkward too as it hits right below my chin. It's not super warm. I find that if its mild-cold out I can wear it with just a long t-shirt or short sleeve. If it's cold I like a heavy sweater (I live on the East Coast of Canada can get to -20 Celcius). Feathers do come out sometimes but not too often where you feel like you won't have a coat after wearing it a couple of times. Look: When it arrived, the packaging was a bit deceiving as it seemed small. Once I took the coat out of the package it was really nice. The material felt of good quality and it looks really nice. Fashionable and sophisticated. I'm not tall and it hits just below my knees but not at the awkward mid-calf area. The coat is a weird shape when you zip it up, it curves inwards between my legs. Which is quite annoying. Size: Depending on how you define size, I like my clothes (jackets) to run slightly larger than my build (athletic) which this coat does. I can put a medium weight hoodie and it feels comfortable. Areas that it is larger for me is the shoulders but its not to bad. Just not fitted. I have medium size shoulders. Recommendations: I like to see a coat that was a bit warmer and had a lining that you could take out so you don't get the coat dirty after coming from the gym rather than having to wear a sweater all the time. It would make it a bit more comfortable to wear. Make the hood larger. Two small. Also addressing the issue of where it hits the neck. Better zipper (easier to zip) and the weird area where it goes inward when zipped. Overall, I like my coat (bought it on sale) but the regular price I do not think I would recommend it.

This has been great in all weather, and held up in wet conditions better than just a down jacket could. It keeps me warm in under 20 degree weather no problem. I have plenty of room in both upper body (arms, chest), and lower body (hips, butt, thighs), without anything squeezing. Absolutely love it, and so happy with this purchase!

Kudos to Patagonia for incorporating last winter's reviews into the production of this winter's (2018-2019) version. I can fit my entire hand plus my smartphone in each pocket, though not much more. (Before going further, nope, I don't work for Patagonia. Never have. Just think they deserve credit for revising this parka for the better.)--the issue with the top of the zipper scraping the chin has been solved. The several parkas I tried on in the store, plus the one I ordered, haven't had this issue.--the neck part is quite roomy (but not too roomy; just enough for a scarf) and isn't stiff.--the bottom half of the parka doesn't sink between my knees. Warmth:I get cold easily, but so far this winter, this parka has performed well when it's ~35 degrees Fahrenheit (~15 mph winds, low-20s with wind chill). I'm comfy with a tank top and leggings underneath, plus a hat (but see note below). Looking forward to seeing how warm I am in it when it's colder and even windier, but I wanted to write this for people searching for winter coats now. ALSO I haven't tested this parka when it's raining / snowing out. Sizing (yeah, I tried all these sizes in the store):--XS: fits snugly (but not too snugly)--S: pretty roomy with just a baselayer underneath. And I have pretty broad shoulders for someone my height. Snug with a fleece and a baselayer underneath.--M: roomy. Also roomy with a fleece and baselayer underneath. Without the fleece underneath, the parka looks way too big.--I chose the small, which hits three-quarters of the way down my knee. It's not perfect:--when sitting down, the parka does balloon a bit around the waist for a second (till I push it down), then all is well. Not a big deal for me, but others might care.--when it's been windy, sometimes the wind has gone under the bottom of the parka and up to my waist, so my bottom half is less warm, BUT I was wearing leggings as pants when this happened. When wearing fleece pants, my legs are warm.
Warm and comfy!
Tested this in a snowstorm in Chicago and it kept me warm! The zipper issue doesn't bother me because most of the time it's not zipped all the way (I did zip it all the way a few times but I tucked my chin behind the jacket to stay warmer, so wasn't an issue). The pockets are fleece lined and kept my hands very warm! Love the coat!!!... Read More

Happy so far
I'm 37, and this was my first "serious" winter coat purchase. Most winters I wear a combination of ski jackets and longer coats that are more fashion-oriented than they are practical. I spent a long time searching for a quality coat that's warm, but also sleek. I have yet to wear this in temperatures lower than the mid 20s, but ... Read Morebased on how warm I was at that temperature without a sweater under it, I'm confident it will be warm enough for Boston winters. Over the past 24 hours I've had the pleasure of testing it out in rain, sleet, and snow, and I stayed nice and dry. The coat itself also dried off incredibly quickly once inside. Overall, I'm thrilled with the coat. The only negatives for me are the same issues I have with most clothing - the sleeves could be a touch longer, and the waist isn't as snug as I'm used to. I don't count these as points off because these issues have more to do with the shape of my body than the coat itself. For reference, I'm 5'8", 135-140 lbs, with a narrow waist and wider shoulders and hips. I considered a medium to accommodate my hips and shoulders, but ended up going with my usual small and I'm glad I did. It fits very well, looks good, and I have room for a sweater under it. Another thing I considered before purchasing this coat is the lack of fake fur around the hood, which is standard for Patagonia. Most of my other coats have had this, and it looks gross by the end of the winter, and I especially hate when it gets wet and matted. That said, it does help to keep snow out of your face, so I was a little apprehensive to buy a coat without it. My walk to work this morning included windy sleet, and the "visor" portion of the hood kept it out of my eyes. My lower face still got wet, but given the weather, I think that was inevitable. The hood is warm, adjustable, and does what it's supposed to do. Also, I'm happy to own a coat that's stylish without promoting the look of fur. I chose the Smolder Blue color, and it's beautiful. When I started my coat quest, I knew I wanted something that was grayish blue - enough color to stand out from all the black coats, but not so much that it would feel inappropriate for certain situations. For some reason, most brands make men's coats in this color, or short women's coats, but it's hard to find long women's coats in it. There were many coats I liked that came in gray or navy, but not a combo of the two. So thanks, Patagonia!

I received this parka as a Christmas gift after I had been wanting it since I first saw it. It was fantastic, lightweight, warm, cozy and it looked fantastic to boot.... the perfect winter parka. That was until the zipper snagged at the bottom. I tried to wiggle it loose (sometimes this happens with normal use of zippers),but was unsuccessful. In the ... Read Moreprocess of trying to get the zipper free, the zipper ripped.... and I was left with a zipper that wouldn't zip. I returned the parka to the retailer for a refund, because I figured it would be faster than going through the whole warranty process. In the meantime I am still without a parka in -30 degree Celsius. Other than the faulty zipper,I recommend this parka for all the wonderful warmth that it was.
Great winter parka
I tried several jackets so I thought I would give the comparison in case others are searching for the same. I have been looking for a longer parka for winter that is warm, blocks the wind, and allows me to move easily as I wanted to wear this on long dog walks and on commuting to work. I liked the Patagonia Stormdrift Parka,it has good length and i... Read Moret is warm with good wind protection. I didn't like how stiff it was though and while it would be better in rain/snow,I didn't feel like I could move well in it to make it my main winter coat. The Patagonia Vosque 3 in 1 parka has a slim fit and was too tight in the hips. I also wanted it to be longer. The Patagonia Transitional Parka was a decent fit but I didn't feel that it was very warm or that it did well in the wind. Finally,I tried the Jackson Glacier Parka and it really fits what I was looking for the best. It is a great long length, hitting at my knees (5'5''). It is warm, even in the wind. The exterior is very soft and seems like it is a thicker material than the Patagonia Transitional Parka exterior. The fit was also better on the Jackson Glacier. It is slimming but roomy enough to easily move in and layer with thick sweaters. I really like the gusted cuffs to keep the cold out. The hood is also comfortable with and without a beanie. Bonus,it's recycled down that is washed and dried so even though I'm allergic to feathers,I'm able to wear this without it impacting my allergies. I plan to wear a rain parka instead if it's really pouring since the Jackson Glacier Parka is only water resistant.
Perfect coat for college
I was looking for a sustainable, fair trade parka for college and I found it in Patagonia's Jackson Glacier Parka. I originally ordered a large in black because I was between a medium and a large. I am 156lbs and 5'8". It ended up being too large so I returned it in store, and it was by far the easiest return I have ever made. I picked... Read More the medium in the gray and I love it. It hits just above my knees and is ever so slightly longer in the back. The double zipper allows for easy adjustment. The gray color is lovely. It is perfect for -30 degree winters that we've been suffering through in the Midwest.
I bought this a week ago and I'm happy with style and fit. The size is perfect, not too big not too small. Warm and cozy for every day wear. Love the material on the outside. Arm length is good - most of the coats and jackets which I tried had too short sleeves. What I miss are buttons to close it quick. The zipper is a bit sensibel - addition... Read Moreal press buttons would be perfect! I really appreciate that Patagonia is responsible with all materials and the environment.
another sizing failure
just got this parka for early christmas and once again its too small...I hate to give patagonia a bad review- I love their company, and their products are of the highest quality. I have been buying patagonia for 40+ years. I still wear my original baggie shorts and synchillas. But now the patagonia womens sizes never ever fit me,even the larger (?) ... Read Moreregular fit. I am 5'4" and 150lb,usually a size 10-12. Patagonia mediums fit my shoulder and upper body, never my hips and I'm not that hippy, and the large size is swimming on top and the arms down to my knees. Its so disappointing that I think I won't try to get patagonia for myself anymore. I feel that this company only makes clothes for tall very thin women ...bummer. I will still purchase for my tall and lean son and husband. (quality of this parka seems excellent but if you have a slightly curvy body- forget it)
The Perfect Winter Coat
This year I turned 30 and had a baby,so I decided I was ready to upgrade from my Down Sweater coat to a long, puffy parka with a hood,or what I like to call the New England Mom Coat. I will never look back. This coat is perfect. It keeps me completely warm and toasty and it looks great. If you're on the fence because of the price,I say go for i... Read Moret. If you live somewhere with real winters, you will get your money's worth out of this excellent coat.
