Not the R1 of old but good
I really love R1s, and this latest version fits better and is lighter than previous ones. That being said, I dont find it as breathable as my older versions, which means its great for super cold weather but can feel a little too warm for transitional seasons. Get lots of compliments though so as usual Patagonia delivers on style and fit.
Can I wear this everyday?
This is the perfect spring/summer weight fleece for everything. I love the way it looks on a zoom call - the slim fit makes it look more dare I say more professional? Also a great spring layer for hiking, long walks, grocery shopping and whatever life throws at you. This is the fleece I want to wear everyday.
Base layer with an extra plushness
I have both the R1 and the R2 now, and I'd say I use the R1 more for skiing and hiking base layers than the R2. I went down to an XS in this because I wanted it to hug my body a little more and it still has a little bit of give around the midsection. I have slightly broader shoulders which is why I'm between an XS and S, so the shoulders ... Read Moreare a little snug but for what I'm using it for, I like the fit. A good all-around warm layer, that's more than a baselayer and not as heavy as a puffy or R2.
Slim fit and good quick dry fabric. I bought one of these to try and liked the way it fit on me so I bought another! The one star off is for the slim fit over my middle and hips (if I eat or drink a bit too much, itll show!). Also the pocket is in theory super handy, but being where it is, it does look funny if you have say more than 2 credit cards... Miss the older hooded version
The R1 half-zip hoody was truly a staple technical base layer for any outdoor winter activity. Unfortunately this current version seems to have lost its technical features (the hood, thumbholes, the fleece on the current version feels thinner than past versions) that made this such a useful piece of clothing for running, skiing, mountaineering, e... Hi Kristen, thank you very much for your detailed review. It is definitely disappointing not finding the newest designs as favorable as the previous ones. Our sizing and designs are constantly being revised and customer's feedback is one of the contributing factors to these changes, so receiving messages like this really helps us improve. Don't hesitate to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) the pullover if you were looking to do so and haven't already.
Absolute love for this fleece
This is the most versatile Patagonia piece I own. I’m in love with it. It’s so warm but breathable. I use it for snowboarding, winter biking and winter running. I can also see using this for warmth in chilly nights in the summer as well. It’s so thin I can use it as a base layer colder days with a warmer mid layer over top and on warm days I use it... New Go To Patagonia!
I absolutely love this pullover. This was purchased for me as a gift while in Oregon in the winter. Ive worn it while fly fishing under an outer shell and waders and it kept me very warm but not hot. I wore it hiking through the snow in the mountains and only needed a Nanopuff over it for the first 20-30 mins until I warmed up, and then this zipped... Read More all the way up was plenty warm! I wore this hiking in windy, but sans snow conditions as well and loved it for that, too! It is soft inside and durable outside, if even a bit water repellant. It does run long in the torso and sleeves, but most Patagonia items do. Im 52 and 125lbs, I fit into a small but purchased a medium in case I wanted another Capilene base layer under this. Im not sure Ill ever have a need for that though!
New Favorite Piece!
I got this after months of contemplation (primarily for camping, running, etc.), and I have rarely been so excited and satisfied by an article of clothing. Best Thing I Own
I have had this fleece for a year and have never had anything I've liked better. It's amazing. I wear it inside the house when it's freezing cold and am warm in a jiffy. It is my layer over a short or long-sleeve shirt when I'm running in 20-40F temps; the long zipper gives me plenty of cooling off when I get too warm. It wicks ... Read Moreextremely well and I am always dry in it. I wear it all day at the slopes or in the backcountry and am warm, dry, and comfortable. The sleeves are long enough for me to pull them over my hands/gloves if it's cold, but easy enough to roll up as needed. The breast pocket is clutch for keeping my phone cozy on chilly days, making sure I have battery when I need. I wash it in activewear detergent and air dry it and it looks as good as new, with some slight pilling. It fits me well and is nice enough to wear ~out on the town~. Worth every penny!
perfect base layer!
I love this top, and wish i could have one in every color! I ordered an xs, and the fit is just right on my narrow torso and not too tight in the chest. Great Lightweight Fleece
Im 5 ft 7 in, 135 lbs, and a 32C. My primary activities are running/ hiking/climbing. Sleeves are the perfect length and the fleece hits me mid-hip. Obsessed with this pullover
I've not been so excited to wear a piece of clothing for a long time. It's perfect for running around Boston in 20-40 degree weather, super lightweight, and warm. I have had numerous R1 hoodys throughout the years in size small (135#/5'7"/34B). This small runs big compared to previous versions. This is my go to layer for colder days in the backcountry, be it touring, climbing, mountaineering, etc. Its almost perfect. I have two qualms. The first is that the sleeves are way too short. The second thing is that I have the hooded version of the R1 and the hood slides over my eyes as I move. These are small potatoes and I just end up not using the hood or thumbholes that much but I do wish Patagonia would make longer sleeves (I have the same issue with other long sleeve tops from Patagonia). Its easier to deal with a slightly too long a sleeve than one thats too short.

I was so excited when I saw that this was one of the few XXL products offered (please make more!), and purchased it for hiking and running in winter. Im surprised at the huge difference between two sizes, especially in the length. The medium is noticeably long, the small was the perfect length. R1 is all I want to wear now!
I love, love, love my R1 Pullover! It's soft and comfortable, and it breathes so well. I only want to wear it, so all my other clothes are getting neglected now. The only improvement I could suggest would be to put hand pockets on the lower front. But it's 5 stars even without low pockets.
Nice but wasnt the fabric thickness i expected
It couldve just been my lack of research into this product but it was thinner and made of cheaper material than i thought especially for the price

Love the color (light blue) and the feel of the pullover, but it is way too long. I am not petite - 5'7". This goes below my bottom. So - it is longer than many of my jackets, and i wouldn't want to ski with it - as I can't tuck that much fabric in to my pants. I'll be returning it, unfortunately.

this warm layer is cozy enough by itself for keeping warm for hikes, runs, etc. but would be a great layer in extra cold weather, too. i love the fit, it is long enough to cover below the waist, yet form-fitting so it hugs ever-so-gently as not to ride-up while running or being active. while it runs small, i think that is a good thing for a layerin... Wanted one for a while
Got it on sale, in a color that I wouldn’t normally choose, the maroon. Turns out I like the color a lot. It seems like it will be really great for colder weather as a first super soft layer or by itself, but way too warm for this September, so unfortunately will sit in the closet for a month or so.
I bought this midlayer for a 6 day trek on the Laugavegur Trail in Iceland. It was exactly what I was hoping for and exactly what I needed. I used it a lot as the temperatures were mostly in the 40s. I wore a wool base layer underneath and it keep me plenty warm. It packed down small enough for my pack and was lightweight. Great product!
go-to midlayer for cold-weather aerobic activities
LOVE this R1! Took it to Nepal in December for Annapurna circuit along with another midlayer but I ended up wearing only this one for the whole week. I loved it so much that I got the full-zipped jacket version for dedicated outer layer use. P.S. I like both (the half-zip and the full-zip) without a hood because my shells have hoods and I don't like midlayer hood getting in the way in suddenly inclement weather (plus my body doesn't regulate heat fast/well so I tend to prefer separate pieces, i.e. hat, neck gaiter, jacket vs. hooded midlayer), but I still support others' complaint about fewer selections available for women (vs. men) P.P.S. I own this pullover (old version, not the new one), and enjoy it a lot.
