Patagonia Ambassador Dörte Pietron and her partner, Daniel Gebel, found some of the best climbing but worst protection in Madagascar. After getting skunked on multiple lines due to corroded bolts or terrible bolt lines, they fell in love with Lalan’i Mpanjaka (8a+/5.13c), Malagasy for “the king line,” an 11-pitch, 1,968-foot beauty of sharp granite and impeccable movement.
