Forget the ten essentials. Survivalists know you need four: food, water, a good knife and our Expedition Sewing Kit (a revival of our original Chouinard Equipment Sewing Kit). Front and center to the kit's utilitarian burliness is the all-everything awesome awl. The awl isn't just any awl: It's machined from high-quality 7075 aluminum alloy – think climbing hardware and hang glider frames – that sews anything from broken pack-straps to the sole flopping off your boot (the stealthy and creative can probably use it to hunt or fish for dinner, too). Heavy duty needles and thread fix the fussy items, while buttons, pins and colored thread mend the easy stuff; and the Tenacious Tape™ adhesive patch seals together everything from torn down jackets to bleeding wounds (not medically approved).
- 2-piece, machined awl made of high-quality 7075 aluminum alloy
- Two heavy-duty needles, nylon thread, waxed polyester thread and cotter pin
- Tenacious Tape™ adhesive patch
- Thread (ten different colors), two sewing needles, two buttons and two safety pins
- Two-pocket, recycled polyester faux suede carrying case

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wiggy from Well named - perfect for expeditionary travel I have been looking for a robust, light weight sewing kit that could handle tougher fabrics (e.g. backpack strap webbing, etc.). Of course the "Speeder Stitcher" is an option, but it never seems to make the packing cut due to its weight and bulk. I've found what I was looking for! Although I'm certainly not a belt AND suspenders person, at 40g this kit goes on ALL my overnight trips. Not mentioned in the description, the kit also comes with a needle threader, and part of the awl contraption serves as a drawstring "re-threader." The design is thoughtful, simple, and comes in a well-sewn leather pouch. My only complaint would be the fragility of the cardboard housing that holds the nylon and waxed polyester thread and awl pieces. Although while new it nicely organizes said pieces, in time I expect it will disintegrate, soon if I let it get wet. Once it does disintegrate, I'll either have to create a new cardboard housing, or just put the parts in a baggie in the pouch. Not a big deal either way. Very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by clintonian from Saved my favorite Ski Gloves I love this kit. I just patched a huge hole in the thumb of my favorite ski gloves with it. I'm not great at sewing but the instructions helped. I will always carry this thing with me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JoeI from It's Back I have carried this same kit, with the Chouinard logo, in my pack for over 30 years, replenishing supplies as needed. It can handle repairs in heavy pack cloth and webbing. I would not head out without it.
