Persistence is often the key to successful fishing, but it’s tough to persist when you’re tired or wet. Our Minimalist Wading Jacket keeps you on the water longer with a rare combination of heavy-duty rain protection and ultralight performance. Made from durable H2No® Performance Standard 2.5-layer nylon ripstop fabric with a waterproof/breathable barrier and DWR (durable water repellent) finish, the Minimalist sheds weather like other premium fly fishing jackets but with half the weight. Two large upper fly-box pockets with highly water-repellent zips haul essential gear, while the two lower handwarmer pockets keep your off hand warm during the swing. Add in a fully adjustable hood and cuffs, plus a bungee drawcord at the waist, and it’s clear: The Minimalist is everything you need and not an ounce more. It is also our longest fishing jacket (5 inches longer than the SST).

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Weatherproof

2.5-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are completely waterproof, windproof, breathable and highly packable for backpacking, alpine climbing and backcountry skiing. They combine a water-repellent shell fabric with a waterproof/breathable membrane and a protective top coat barrier without needing a protective lining fabric. A raised print layer is applied to decreased layering friction and increase moisture management.

2.5-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are coated with DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish that repels light rain and snow. In conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

All products bearing the H2No mark have been vigorously tested for durability in our 24 Killer Wash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal features I haven't used it fly fishing as yet but it has been fine in the rain - light weight, comfortable and has all of the features that I feel are necessary for a fly fishing jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good minimalist jacket I bought this jacket to replace an older Patagonia shell that is now discontinued. It's mostly as advertised: a lightweight minimalist shell. It has more pockets that I expected, and they're larger than I expected too. I like the subdued color: this is one of the main reasons I went with this jacket rather than one of Patagonia's other shells. My one gripe so far: it could be longer in the back. I realize this is marketed as a fly fishing jacket, which would be worn over waders. But if it was an inch or two longer in the back it would be the perfect all around rain shell. Fit: I'm 5'9", and the medium fits as expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wine-Drinker/Travel Writer's Jacket I bought the Minimalist Wading Jacket to fly-fish, but I also bought it because I needed a rain/wind shell and I loved its simplicity and large pockets. It has a classy clean look that I can wear when I go out. It doesn’t look technical. It’s lightweight. You could also call it the “Wine-Drinker/Writer’s Wading Jacket.” Each side pocket is tall enough to fit a regular-sized wine bottle. Each chest pocket fits a medium-sized Moleskine notebook, a good-sized book, or an e-reader. After wearing it for a while, I’ve got a few ideas: 1. The side pockets. Please add D-ring and Velcro high up inside. Let me secure gloves, sunglasses, organizer bags/wallet so they won’t sag to my waist. 2. No Chest Pockets: a. Instead: Do zippered access to the chest section of the side pockets. b. Velcro strip, zipper, ziplock, or whatever ½ way up the interior of the tall side pockets would permit let users create a chest pocket. Or leave open. c. Put a Velcro patch at the top of the pockets to attach fly patches, wallet, organizer pack etc. (See Goruck.com packs for a version of this. See Maxpedition for examples of organizer packs. Make your own!) 3. A minimalist jacket needs to roll tightly and have strap/Velcro to keep it tight. Request: Make a Truly Minimalist Wading Jacket: 1. I would love to have a truly Minimalist Wading Jacket/Shell. This isn’t it! 2. Users will always wear a shirt, fleece, fishing vest, etc. underneath it. 3. Therefore: No pockets. Just pass-through zippers to interior layers. 4. Make it obvious how fold/roll it tight, add straps/velcro to keep it that way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Jacket Purchased the minimalist wading jacket for a salmon fly fishing trip to Scotland. During the 6 day trip we had all weather condition thrown at us, snow, hail, rain, sun, and overcast. The temp ranged from the low 30's to the high 50's. the jacket traveled well took little room in my pack and performed extremely well during the entire trip. The hood and pockets worked well. It is not a shorty jacket so could easily wear it after fishing as a rain jacket. With a base layer a nano puff and the jacket stayed comfortable in all conditions. The only improvement would add rubber cuffs on the sleeves no matter how tight I cinched up the velcro cuff they leaked not a huge issue but would be a nice add to make the jacket perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket There are very few days in Alaska when you don't need to have a jacket handy. However, most wading jackets are too bulky and warm for summer use. I bought the Minimalist early this summer and it has performed excellently. It's all I've used this fishing season. It is light to pack and offers great protection from the wind and rain. As the weather is cooling, I'm very comfortable with a warm fleece layer underneath. It would be very useful if Patagonia would add a hook at the neck to attach a net to. While I have used the jacket primarily for fishing, it is fine for any outdoor activity where you want a light rain jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent light weight wading jacket I recently purchased a Minimalist Wading Jacket for a backcountry fly fishing trip, because my traditional guide jacket is far too heavy for backpacking. I've used it in rain, hail and wind, and I'm very pleased--dry, light weight and comfortable. I plan to use it whenever I fly to a destination to save weight. The only change I would advocate is the addition of an inside pocket for glasses. My Patagonia shirts, Nano Puff Pullover and Down Sweater are size Large, but after some research I purchased an Extra Large wading jacket, and it fits perfectly over a the Nano or the Down Sweater, but isn't too large over a shirt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Great Jacket This is very good jacket, light weight, easy to pack away. Combined with soft shell jacket, fleece and base layer, keeps me warm even at the coldest day on the coast here in Denmark. In order to make the jacket perfect, draining holes in the lower pockets should be introduced. Here at the coast in Denmark, we sometime have to wade deep, in order to reach the sand banks, where we are within the reaches of the big Sea trout’s, since the zips on the lower pockets is not water proof, the pocket are filled with many liters water, when the sand banks are reached. Emptying the pockets from water is not easy, when one also are holding a rod and reel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent light rain jacket Paired with a primaloft vest, this was the perfect jacket for cool wet days on a trip to Ireland. It is thin and waterproof and packs well. The green is dark and unobtrusive, but could be brighter to match my personality.
