We go to Whitewater for 2,000 vertical feet of Backside Bowl bliss, which most days translates to a heaping helping of damp cold to go along with your serving of overhead. The Rubicon combines a tough shell fabric and stay-warm-when-wet insulation to keep you warm and comfortable ripping it up while everyone else is holed up with a latté and chili mac. The exterior is made of durable, 100% polyester ripstop with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to snub wind and moisture. Inside, a soft layer of compressible 150-g Thermogreen® polyester (90% recycled) insulation (100-g Thermogreen® in the sleeves) adds heat to thwart icebox temperatures. Finer points include articulated arms; pit zips; an easy-gliding liner; a zip-off powder skirt (with webbing loop that attaches to any Patagonia® Snow pants); a helmet-compatible hood with a single-hand adjustment; and zippered pockets, including two handwarmers, one chest with media pocket and cable routing and one internal stash. There's also an internal drop-in for gloves and goggles, and an embedded RECCO® avalanche rescue reflector.
  • Durable polyester ripstop fabric is breathable and water-resistant
  • Lightweight, compressible 150-g Thermogreen® insulation in the body and 100-g in the sleeve stays warm even when wet
  • Helmet-compatible hood has an easy-to-use single-hand adjustment; soft microfleece panels at back of neck and chin; pit zips quickly release heat; articulated arms increase mobility
  • Removable, lightweight stretch-woven powder skirt; snap secured webbing loop at center back connects to any Patagonia® Snow pants
  • Zippered pockets: two handwarmers, with soft fleece lining for comfort; one interior stash; and one interior media pocket with cable routing. Other pockets: one chest with snap, one internal drop-in for goggles or gloves
  • Adjustable low-profile cuffs secure over or under gloves; drawcord hem adjusts via drawcords in handwarmers
  • Concealed RECCO® reflector
  • Shell: 2-layer, 5-oz 100% polyester ripstop with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Lining: 2.2-oz 100% polyester plain weave. Powder skirt: 91% recycled polyester/9% spandex. Women's Rubicon Jacket is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It! This jacket is perfect for in-bounds skiing and as a general winter coat. It is likely too warm for long up-hill skins, but I'm super pleased with it as a resort coat. The synthetic insulation is perfect--when snow turns to rain, you're still warm. Some people have complained about the size being a bit large or baggy. I got a small which is my normal size in Patagonia outerwear. I LIKE that it's roomy enough to be comfortable with a baselayer, an R1 and a nano puff when it gets extremely cold. I think this also breathes well. I was recently out skiing on a sunny, warm day and had on a baselayer only. I opened the pit zips and was completely comfortable--and didn't mind that it was roomy inside. But if you are often skiing in warmer weather or are not a cold person, you could possibly size down. But I like the sizing because I do get cold easily and rely on being able to wear a lot of layers. Another item of note is the design of the collar and hood. When zipped all the way, the collar stands tall, protecting the face from wind and is lined with a super soft fleecy material like the pocket liners. The hood is also large enough to fit over any ski helmet. With these details and the abundance of great pockets, this jacket seems so thoughtfully engineered. There is not a single thing that I wish was different or could be improved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic ski jacket I tried on about 10 ski jackets from different brands and am thrilled I went with this one! It has fantastic features and very useful pockets. The side pockets are fleece lined and comfy. The hood is generous and fits nicely with or without a helmet. Great powder skirt worked very well when I did take a spill. Most importantly it is plenty warm and kept me comfortable in VT with temperatures hovering around 0°. I found it ran true to size, maybe a bit big. I'm 5'10" and the slightly longer length worked well for me. My first Patagonia purchase but with what I've learned about the company and their social values and how much I love this jacket it certainly won't be my last!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Ski Jacket! I've worn a number of different ski jackets over the years and this is by far one of my favorites. I get cold easily and this has been the first jacket that keeps me dry, blocks from the wind and does not require 3+ layers underneath (like a shell) to stay warm at temperatures of 10 degrees. The jacket also runs a bit longer than your traditional ski jacket (which I love) and the helmet hood comes in handy on extra windy days. Plus it looks great on the slopes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Love Love!! I just purchased this jacket and it is awesome! I'm 5'10" with long arms and the XL has plenty of room and length. A large probably would fit, but I really like the relaxed fit and having extra room for layering. It's super comfortable and warm and I can tell it's made really well (like all of Patagonia's items) I know I will have this one for a long time! So thank you Patagonia for making a longer length jacket that's roomy! I'm tired of cropped fitted jackets that seem to be the only choices for us gals.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too baggie and not as warm as older down one Bought a mans small 2 years ago. It was made of down. Very warm. Got a small for my wife the current version. Not warm enough and very baggie. After I got her another jacket I tried the S regular fit. It even fit me. I can use it as a mid layer. Don't know why the change of material. I much prefer my one. Still good products but wonder if the change was due to cost or design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket I have last year's version but the specs seem to be the same so I'm reviewing here after wearing for a year. This is my favorite coat, it has very durable construction, is warm, breathable, and functional without making you look like the abominable snonwman. Sizing feels accurate, I'm a size 14 in jeans and L in tops and the XL was perfect for a fleece or thick sweater underneath. Nice long pit zips with double zipper, they aren't mesh lined but for me that's a plus because you can release heat fast. Lots of great features. The fit is nice and feminine. It's my go to jacket for activities or just around town when it's really cold out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor stitching quality I bought this jacket as my primary winter coat during a winter season spent in the interior of south-central Alaska. While the jacket was very warm and the exterior fabric was very durable (even working with sled dogs it did not tear or rip!), I was very disappointed with the overall construction of the jacket. The stitching of the velcro patches that line the front zipper overlap and the velcro at the wrist cuffs all started to come undone within a few days of wear and by the end of the winter, all of the velcro was nearly falling off due to poor stitching. I would certainly buy this jacket again if this problem was fixed - I loved everything else about it!
