Keep your cool in the Sunshade Hoody, even with a hooked tarpon charging the end of the flats. Made from an ultralight 3.5-oz 100% polyester double-knit fabric with 25-UPF sun protection, it offers full upper-body coverage and a cool, airy feel. This flattering hooded sun shirt fits beautifully and works hard on the water thanks to straight cuffs with thumb holes to cover the hands, a built-in foldover sun mask and an integral hood that fits easily over a sun cap. There’s a hidden zippered pocket on the lower left hem; heat-pressed, abrasion-resistant thermoplastic tape reinforces pocket construction for additional strength. Fitzroy trout logo at hem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice look---snags easily I love the look of this hoody and I think it will work out well for sun protection or even a base layer. Its a bit thicker than I expected it to be, but should be fine. The part that is annoying and that I read on previous reviews is the material snagging easily. Yup! It sure does. Either my wedding ring or other ring I always wear brushed up against fabric and it snagged pretty bad. I will continue to wear it and cut off any snags as they happen. Such an annoying issue though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Sun Shirt Nice fabric, it is slightly thicker than I expected but I actually like that. It has a durable feel that many other sun shirts don't have, and a little more wind protection. This is my go-to shirt on days when the forecast says it's going to be sunny, but not super hot. I got the "drifter: ploy purple" color and it's just what I was looking for. I'm 5'8" 130lbs and the Small is the perfect fit, especially if you have long arms like I do. Another home run Patagonia!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Choice for White Water Adventures Could not recommend this hoodie enough. Looks great, keeps you super cool in the hot sun, and protects neck with stellar hoodie.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very hot if you're exercising I thought it would be great to buy this and some long-sleeve shirts in polyester with sun protection while I'm working outdoors caring for animals and plants in the heat of summer. Wrong! Whoever recommends polyester tops when it's hot is beyond my comprehension. I get covered in sweat and the heat doesn't escape. It's so uncomfortable. Maybe if you're sitting around it's OK. It's one of those myths like those "breathable" raincoats. You get sopping wet from the rain -- they're not waterproof at all. Very disappointing!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bring back the old fabric! I am so so so so so so SO bummed that the fabric changed! How bummed? So bummed that I'd pay 3x the price to find the older version. This is a completely different garment than the one I bought and wore on every single hike/backpack/river/seafaring trip I've ever been on in the last few years. Any review posted here in 2014 or earlier would be reviewing the older, better version. The new fabric is way less airy and breathable. It is now a tighter fit and a tighter weave fabric that feels more like a jacket than a lightweight, breathable sun-protective hoodie. I used to love being able to wear it on hot, sweaty days as my primary form of sun protection without being weighed down or feeling like I was suffocating my skin. Oh oh OH! AND! The UPF used to be 45 not 25. I am mourning the loss of the old sunshade hoody. RIP. You will be missed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SunShade Perfect sun protection with long arms so the thumb guard actually allows functional operation of tasks. Nice big hood - will work with any cap or helmet. The LRG at 150 LBs 36D allows for any activity - could size down for more fitted garment. Reading about hoody staining/not laundering out - imagine it would unless used for leisure only.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective sun protection I like this much better than a previous iteration of this shirt I had because of the stay-put hood and small side zipper pocket (instead of a sweatshirt-style front pocket). I also bought a small this time instead of extra-small and prefer the looser fit. I wore this tubing, and it kept me from getting sunburned. However, I cannot seem to get the dirt out of it. After washing a couple of times, scrubbing dirty spots, and soaking it in oxy-clean, it still looks dirty. It's not a huge deal, since I will probably only wear it to do things like tubing, sailing, etc. that don't require me to look super nice.
