Read More Close
The finest mountain days merge elegance and efficiency. Our R1® Pullover maintains a similar focus, with a high/low interior grid polyester/spandex fabric (Polartec® Power Grid™) that stretches, breathes, moves moisture and insulates—recently redesigned exclusively for Patagonia to be even lighter and more breathable. Its technical fit accommodates light underlayers or works as a stand-alone top, and it squashes down to practically nothing in your pack. Simple cuffs stay comfortable against the wrists; minimalist zippers reduce bulk; and a soft, kissing-welt zipper garage at the chin offers next-to-skin comfort. With a smooth, microfiber face for easy layering, offset shoulder seams for pack-wearing comfort, a zippered left-chest pocket and Polygiene® permanent odor control.

Insulation

Regulator® fleece insulation provides phenomenal compressibility, light weight warmth, and moisture transport, whether used alone or as part of a layering system.

The lofted hollow-core fibers of Regulator fleece insulation conserve body heat while allowing body moisture to wick uninhibited. They’re also lightweight and highly compressible for packing.

Regulator Fleece Insulation provides exceptional breathability to keep you dry on the inside and while Regulator fleece provides the same amount of warmth as a much bulkier fleece, it does so with lighter, more compressible materials. Since you stay both dryer and warmer, you’re able to maintain your comfort over a wide temperature range, which results in fewer layering changes and a lighter, less bulky pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Shirt The Patagonia R1 has been my single favorite article of clothing for over a generation. De rigueur for almost anything at any time before the day gets too warm. - Sequoia

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shirt ever My 4th R1. The new color is great. So comfortable, versatile and durable. What's not to like?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for layering! Great shirt for layering or as a standalone garment. The neck unzips making it easy to take on and off or to vent when you're getting too hot. Fit is perfect, I'm 6'1'' and weigh 210.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Neck is Too Big The neck size is too big by 1 or 1-1/2". The model photos here on the website are well-staged so you cannot tell until you try the garment on. The neck hangs unflatteringly like a drape around the neck.Competing products use spandex, elastane or other design solutions to make the neck fit better (compression) and make much more aesthetically appealing. Size L fits sleeve length and body for 6' 2", 190 lbs with 35-3/4" sleeve length. It is just that neck that hangs and flops around like a drape. Plus the material takes a "set" from initial folding & shipping, that despite repeated washing\drying, will not go away in the neck material. The overly big neck material is quite annoying and is a common issue with Patagonia fitting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stylish and a good layer I've worn this layer on several outings. It is stylish and works well as a layer. It does not offer wind resistance so if it is windy, plan accordingly. My only complaint is that after one wash, it is starting to pill on the front.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from could be the best piece of clothing I own I have 2 of these, one about 5 years old and one about 3 years old. The versatility is unmatched by anything else in my closet- works as a mid layer, outerlayer in mild conditions, never seems to overheat yet keeps you warmer than expected, squishes down to take up almost no space in a pack, supremely comfortable, great fit. The breast pocket is perfect for holding my glasses, now that I'm too presbyopic to read a map without them. Highly recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Durable like previous models I’ve only worn my R1 sweatshirt 4-6 times and have washed it 2 maybe 3 times and it’s already piling like crazy. Showing the same wear that my previous generation R1’s had after 3+ years of moderate/heavy use. Disappointed with the changes and would like Patagonia to revert to the old fabric.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid product, why is it piling and wearing? Got this on sale for 40% off. It's a solid top - looks great, fits well in medium. Disappointed that my R1 and my gf's both started wearing at the back almost straight away. Probably shouldn't be happening. Overall for the price and performance, I'd opt for a mid level layer from Icebreaker - tougher and the Merino is great.
